About Scouts Tasmania

Scouts Tasmania is a leading youth development organisation dedicated to nurturing the skills, character, and leadership potential of young people across the State. The mission of Scouting is to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilling as individuals and play a constructive role in society.

The Role

This is an unpaid volunteer role.

As President you will be the Chair of our State Executive Committee which is the Board responsible for Governance, Financial Management, Strategy, and Policy for Scouts Tasmania.

As President you :

  • Chair the State Executive Committee to set the strategic direction for Scouts Tasmania, ensuring alignment with our mission and values.
  • Oversee Financial and Operational Compliance.
  • Engage with the Community to build strong relationships with all levels of Government and appropriate Community Organisations to develop and expand our relationships for our mutual benefit.

Qualifications

Candidates must be aged 18 years or older and must undertake a Police check prior to appointment. Candidates must also be eligible to hold a Working With Vulnerable People Card and complete and ensure currency of Child Safety & WHS e learning modules.

As a Candidate you must show a demonstrated understanding of, and experience in the following areas: 

  • Leadership Experience: Proven leadership skills. Experience in organisational governance is desirable.
  • Excellent Communication: Strong public speaking, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and implement long-term strategies and plans.
  • Community-Minded: A strong connection to and understanding of the Tasmanian community.
  • Commitment: A willingness to invest time and effort to collaborate with a dedicated team of staff, volunteers, and the State Executive Committee to achieve Scouts Tasmania’s goals.

Prior board experience and/or membership with Scouts Tasmania is not necessary, but candidates must have a strong desire to help guide the direction of Scouting in Tasmania.
