The next Scout Guide Regatta will be at Snug on 10–12 March, 2018.

The Scout Guide Regatta has been a regular event on the Tasmanian Scouting and Guiding calendar for 54 years.  It is unique in Australia because of its water based regatta program and being a combined Scouting and Guiding event.  It is held on the long weekend in March and participants, their Leaders and parents camp in tents around the Snug Oval with centralised catering.

Scouts, Guides, Venturers, Ranger Guides, Rovers, Olaves, Leaders and parents participate in both water and land based events.  The water events include kayaking, canoes, dinghies, yachting, patrol craft, rescue, greasy pole, raft building and other novelty water events. There is also the opportunity to have a go at kayaking, patrol craft rowing and pacer dinghies in a non-competitive setting.  Land events include tug or war, ball and chain, gumboot throwing, rope throwing, bucket relays and flags.  Evening activities vary from Regatta to Regatta but include an outdoor movie option.  All participating groups receive a certificate acknowledging events in which they participated and first to third placings if a competitive event.  About a dozen events have a trophy and these are presented at the closing ceremony.

Scouting and Guiding members under ten have the opportunity to come to the Regatta on one of the days to soak up the atmosphere, participate in selected Regatta activities and their own beach based activities.  They will be the participants of future events.

The Regatta is organised by a hard working Committee and is made possible by the participation of Scout and Guide Leaders and a host of volunteers who are usually parents of the participants. The event is also supported in practical ways by the Kingborough Council.  It is loads of fun, great for building confidence and skills in all who participate and a fantastic place for making and continuing friendships over many years.

For Scouts and Guides

The Regatta is about taking part, having fun, socialising and making new friends.

You get the chance to try lots of different water and beach activities. You don’t have to win or be really good at anything. You choose which events you want to enter.

After all the fun at the beach, evening activities include films and a disco.

You don’t have to cook your own food - there is central catering.

You get a souvenir pennant and great memories.

Information for Leaders

Get your youth members who have been to Regatta to enthuse your younger Scouts/Guides. (Remember that participants need to be at least 10 years old).

You don’t need to bring boats or have expertise in water activities, but if you have access to suitable craft, then go for it! Many events are shore based and you can share equipment with other troops.

For Parents

Parents have a great time at the Regatta. You can participate in Leader/Parent events if you wish, and the Regatta relies on you to help with the running of events.

A good option is to camp with your troop/unit and be part of the Regatta catering.

Alternatively, arrange accommodation in the Snug area.  Book the Snug Caravan Park or The Lea well before the Regatta if you want to stay there.
